Last week, I did something absolutely unspeakable. Horrendous, UNFORGIVABLE. I... travelled to... the South.

I know. London to be specific, and because London is e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e it was important for me and my fellow travelling pal not to spend too many British pounds.

We'd booked somewhere to stay for the evening for next to nothing (all hail Airbnb), so when we arrived in the city we headed straight there to dump our bags and then set off to explore. First stop, Borough Market.

I'm sad to say that I didn't get any pictures while we were at the market... but all for a good reason - we were stuffing our faces with BEAUTIFUL burgers that were perhaps as good as Bob's.

Next stop, Tate Modern. I love this place but I don't go there enough which is a bit poop, but what is less poop is that it means I get to see new things every time I turn up, even in the bits that are free to view. Despite a rather groovy-looking Picasso exhibition happening, we stuck to our cheapo guns and did some gazing at some rather politically-charged exhibits:

Exhibit A: Guerrilla giiiiirls
Exhibit B: 'a youth that worries about the future too often'
Exhibit C: a Warhol piece I analysed in Art in about Year 8

The fun didn't even stop when we walked out of the building because THERE WERE SWINGS. Predictably we ran straight for the 'adult' ones, ran off and then didn't have any pictures to show for it AGAIN so we stopped for a little photo shoot on the, um, smaller ones.

as you can see I am well educated in how to use a swing - BSc (Hons)/MSc/PHD in Swing Science

Heading towards the nearest Tube station, we encountered one of the most fabulous road crossings I've ever seen (similar to one I found in Brooklyn).

TA-DAHHHH!

Third stop, Oxford Street. Window shopping is a key part of doing London on the cheap, and the main destinations for us were Topshop and Urban Outfitters. Some funky and also potentially questionable garments were tried on, including these bad boiz:

I mean... they are FLARES :o
.....yeees?!

With my inner London GPS completely out of it, I'd forgotten that my favourite street in the city was nearby, none other than Carnaby Street. Irregular Choice is a top shop (ey up) on there for me because of the shoe eye candy alone, but we zoomed straight into Monki. Possibly the wackiest staircase I've had the pleasure of scampering up.

After wandering over to Covent Garden, we hit up The Escapologist in Covent Garden with a further pal, arriving during Happy Hour which made discovering this underground hideaway all the more awesome. I recommend the Hidden Julep (...x2), and hanging around a bit so you can potentially end up with somewhere to sit (this was completely reliant on a very nice chap whisking his date off early and gifting us with their table - cheers stranger dude!).

One or a couple of proseccos later, we embarked on a night of awesome tunes and making hilarious but also very temporary friends on the Tube. Turns out Hidden Juleps and Singapore Slings are catalysts for making friends in London on public transport, who knew?!

All in all, usually I'm a bit apprehensive when I head to this giant place in the land of the South but I had a cracking time, and would love to do it all again... jusqu'à la prochaine fois!
