Instead of sitting down to eat a sandwich out of a Tupperware box and then contemplate life/the universe for 45 minutes, my lunch hours have been filled with a much more exciting activity lately: scooting around this year's exhibition full of art by undergraduate artists in their final year at Lancaster University. BOI was there some good stuff in there. And just to clarify - by 'stuff' I mean 'beautiful artwork, which I do not wish to demean because it is so god d*mn beautiful'.
Whilst I've been doing a few posts over on
my Instagram about this exhibition, they just don't do the event justice. Honestly, I'd love to shout out to every artist there as I went to see every piece and you all should be SO PROUD but I'd be here all day, so here's a tasty selection of the arty treatz I encountered:
The colours in this piece grabbed me right away! I loved Lucy's other works in the exhibition but this one was by far my favourite of hers and if I had enough pennies I would snap it up for my future funky house (ahahahaha *wipes doomed millennial tears*).
This is so intricate and layered that it b l o w s my mind. I love thinking about places in such great detail.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Claire's pencil skills are
phenomenal. When I viewed this (above is only a part of the entire work) I didn't think it could possibly have been drawn, yet I was mistaken.
SO MANY DOTS! Whilst I was stood admiring Russell's work I couldn't help thinking how much time and pure concentration it must've taken to complete the pieces (they're not small). Hot damn.
It took me a while to realise that this wasn't just one ordinary photo of someone sitting on a bench, and was in fact like a rather trippy and epic collage. Serious skills right here.
Just wow. Tabitha's work is undeniably amazing, with an extra sprinkle of greatness on top for me personally simply because I struggle to draw animals and she does it so so well. Her hedgehog illustration was another favourite of mine.
As soon as I saw Rosie's work my mind typically went into excitement overload because COLOURS. Super weird & wonderful - just how I like pretty much everything to be.
Thick soft wool is glorious. Despite my not-usually-being-a-fan-of-installations (mainly due to my mild fear of huge art - I don't know why either), the structure of this piece had me hooked (pun maybe intended).
This gave me creepy storybook monster vibes and I loved it. Amber's work is hugely detailed and SO suited for book illustration imo.
Upon seeing Katie's work I immediately thought "
this is the type of work people want in their houses". Statement pieces, awesome shapes & composition, a number of complementary colours within each - interior design cOmE tHrOuGh.
Laura's work is so calm & serene. Her subtle use of thread adds even more texture and colour to her paintings which I love.
Finally/last but definitely not least, I encountered Phoebe's awesome installation in Bowland Annexe and I felt like a magpie as I
couldn't stop staring at the shininess. Beautiful.
Sadly, the exhibition finished on the 30th of June so you can no longer go and see it for yourself... but what you can do is check out more of the featured artists' work by clicking on the pieces above AND by heading to www.ludegreeshow2018.com!
What a wonderful way to spend your lunch break! You're so lucky to work so close to such an amazing exhibit.
