Have you ever had something happen to you that seemed so unlikely that the only thing that can explain it is, well, fate? Or was it just coincidence?
The way you see it normally depends on how extreme the circumstances are.
Yesterday, I went on a walk with my parents. We set off through the countryside along a river and eventually got to the city centre, by which time it was 12 noon. Being naturally hungry humans, we found the nearest café and sat down to eat lunch.
A few days before, we'd visited my grandparents and some friends from New Zealand came round for a surprise visit as they're travelling round Europe for a year. They left after a few hours of chat, six gallons of tea and twenty ginger biscuits. Each.
Anyway, as I inhaled an acai smoothie yesterday, my mum happened to turn her head...and see our two friends from New Zealand standing on the other side of the glass, reading the menu on the door. To be honest it was pretty hard to believe.
What if we'd set off from home at a different time? What if we'd taken longer or less time to walk to the café?
What if we'd chosen a different place to eat?
What if my mum hadn't looked outside?
What if we'd gone to Whitby like originally planned?
What if our friends had decided to travel elsewhere in the country? Or look elsewhere to eat? At a different hour?
The answer to all these questions is quite obvious: we wouldn't have met.
But we did. And we all ate paninis.
All those things questioned above didn't happen and the things that did caused what happened to occur. If that makes sense.
Was that really just coincidence? (yes, dummy - you're probably saying but bearing in mind we hadn't seen these friends in 10 years, maybe someone somewhere knew we needed more of a catch up?)
Share below in the comments box any odd unexplainable 'coincidences' you've experienced, I'd love to hear them.
